Symphony orchestra on stage

Utica Community Schools students recently enjoyed a day at the symphony, thanks to Target and the Kiwanis Club of Utica-Shelby Township.

Switzer and Burr fourth graders attended the Macomb Symphony Orchestra Youth Education Concert on March 1.

The concert featured performances by the 70-member orchestra, under the direction of Thomas Cook.

Students listened to music written by composers from around the world and heard demonstrations of individual instruments played by the principal players in each section of the orchestra.

"With the help of grants and donations from supporters such as Target and the Kiwanis Club of Utica-Shelby Township, our students' lives become even more enriched," said music teacher, Nancy Cannava. "I would like to acknowledge and express our appreciation for these community partners who so willingly fund opportunities for the children in our schools."
